First, I am not sure whether the quality of the digital image can be measured by the number of pixels only. Say that I a Nikon digital SLR 1D or 1DH gives me about 2.6 MP, and compared to a P & S as a Nikon Coolpix P5100, which gives me about 12.1 MP. Are we sure that the 12.1 MP P & S is better than the 2.6MP just outside the front 1D?
For the film, I'm not sure if it can be an analogy, as you describe. Why? Since you will be used in the quality of the film look extent. As another question, but keep things simple, you can not mega-pixels as a measure of image quality.
